May 2019: I lived at CastleRock for almost a year. I never had any issues and the service was great until I found out the hard way that this property is not military friendly. My husband and I have military orders to move to Germany in June and the legal team has decided to decline my request to cancel my lease, even after submitting my husbands orders and a copy of his flight itinerary stating that he left on May 21, 2019. We are beyond frustrated and stressed due to the fact that I am already moved out of my apartment and heading to Germany very soon. I understand that legally, as a spouse, I am not protected under the Service Members Civil Rights Act. However, if the legal team had any consideration and/or appreciation for what military families go through then they would be more willing to let me out of my lease for the last 2 months. I would give CastleRock a much better rating if it wasn’t for the fact that there is little to no appreciation for military families. Review from Google
May 2019: Apartment complex is good for the price! Has great amenities! Rooms are spacious and a great size. Maintenance is usually quick about fixing things, but WiFi could use a little more work. Appliances are up to date, but could use a modern look in cabinets and such. Never had a problem with paying rent or anything. Jordan was always a great help when it involved packages! May 2019: Single bedroom prices are a little high but otherwise prices are competitive. They need to work on keeping their pools clean as well as enforcing owners clean up after their dogs but otherwise its an alright place to live. On the upside, their staff works very hard to meet and even exceed expectations, especially Jordan! Review from Google
May 2019: I have lived here for a year and it's okay. I've both worked and lived here, so hopefully you take my review as an insightful perspective. The leasing consultants are really amazing people - Peak Campus always seems to choose leasing consultants that are pure of heart and are seriously hard workers. Maintenance team is great and they try their best! The only thing i would improve on is the internet & management. Review from Google
May 2019: Castle Rock is not a bad apartment. They have new management and I can tell that they are working hard to better the property and better serve the student community. Maintenance is awesome, I put in a service request and by the time I make it back home the request is complete. Residents aren’t as considerate when it comes to their pets as they allow them to poop on the sidewalk and not pick it up. Overall, I think this is a pretty good student complex as I have resigned. Management will try to work to solve any problems that you have. They are fairly cheaper when compared to other apartments and they are still pretty nice! :) Review from Google
Mar 2019: My son is currently a resident there. We have been trying since March 3rd to figure out some charges from simple bills. They are the worst as well. My son has sent countless emails to the manager to have someone looks at them and give us a correct total of exactly what to pay. It's been almost a month and no one seems to care or correspond back. He was told to send screen shots of what he has paid, which he did countless times, he was told the manager would have to look at them and get back with him . Then they tell him someone from simple bills needs to call them. Now they are trying to charge late fees , when he has been trying to have someone looks at his acct for almost a month. We are not trying to get out paying, we just need to know exactly what we owe. To me it seems no one wants to bother with it and at the end they just want him to pay. Feb 2019: I love playing sand volleyball here! The court is always super clean and it’s lighted so I can play at night as well! Also the staff at the office are always super nice and helpful!! Review from Google

Feb 2019: So I could go on and on about how awful this place is but than you would be reading this all day so I’ll just give you the main points. The front office staff is extremely rude. I try to make complaints or tell them something that I need done and they say things like “well that’s never happened here before, are you sure.” They are constantly rude or unhelpful, don’t answer emails or calls, and I promise they will either lose your packages or send it back for god knows why. They recently hired some workers to come clean and paint my walls and they literally did it around the posters on my wall. I have random inspections done at least twice a month for god knows why. Maintenance came for a straight month doing upkeep on some of the empty rooms in my apartment for people that never showed up. I have random fees added to my bill with no Review from Google
Feb 2019: castlerock sucks do not live here. In the span of one semester my AC was broken at least 7 times. My fridge did not work and when they replaced it they left the broken fridge in the apartment for at least a month when they were suppose to pick it up the next day. My hot water stopped working 4 times and I had to use cold water for at least a week. recently when I returned back after winter break my building did not have internet for a over a week and every time I would email them about it or my roommates would email them about it they ignored for 3 days then finally answered us. Dec 2018: This is the worst apartment I have ever lived in. The office workers are absolutely terrible. They lie to you about events and make their place look amazing and their staff friendly. Then you sign a lease. All that goes away. The office staff is absolutely terrible. They don’t know a thing about the lease or how this apartment is ran. If you want to call the office if you have questions, you won’t be able to talk to anyone. Because the office staff sits around on their phones talking to each other. Even when you walk inside the office, they will continue to talk. Also, their random charges are outrageous. Pet fee is $500 not including their monthly pet rent. Dec 2018: Not a bad place, as long as you don't need anything from the office. Customer service is almost nonexistent and nothing they do is wrong. Update: came to the office to get packages, waited a few minutes past 10AM to still see it closed... this place never fails to disappoint. Review from Google
Dec 2018: A previous review I wrote has been deleted. I could go into detail about why I’m giving this complex one star but instead I’ll just mention the most recent mishaps. Our water was shut off for days and the communication around this was terrible. Also recently they deposited my rent to someone else’s account and sent me multiple threatening emails/ letters about my rent being overdue and once I asked them to correct their mistake no apology was made. Nov 2018: I am currently a resident and this place is horrible to say the very least. The apartment where I am was nothing like the show room, it was very dirty and has a bunch of wear and tear, along with damages that should not be there. Work orders take forever to get taken care of. There seems to be mold in almost every building. Pools are always dirty. Definitely not worth living here. After reading all the previous reviews I'm terrified that I will be charged for damages that were already here when I got here. It seems that regardless wether you wrote them down or not they will charge you. AVOID LIVING HERE AT ANY COST!!! Review from Google
Oct 2018: moved in- apartment wasn’t ready bc it was flooded. Ever since move in- I’ve had a slew of problems- dryer/dishwasher not working, lights out, it was not cleaned before move in. My ac has gone out twice, ceiling fan light jammed so it won’t turn off without turning the fan off (with a broken ac that’s a nightmare), water stain on ceiling, bathroom outlet doesn’t work. Do not stay here if you don’t want to have to submit a service request every other day. Review from Google

Aug 2018: (Confirmed Resident of 2 years) This community is absolutely horrible. Do not expect to have a good experience here. When I moved in my entire unit was so disgusting I couldn't even shower without scrubbing my bath tub, after they told me my unit would be cleaned spotless before I even arrived. Throughout my 2 years there were numerous problems as if it was just one after another. The property manager and her idiotic staff, that know absolutely nothing about anything and are more rude than helpful, only care about getting as much money out of its residents as possible and could care less for things such as a broken A/C unit in the middle of July. They are attempting to steer the community into a more "Luxurious" property but are only successful at raising the price of rent whenever possible. Jul 2018: Honestly this place is HORRIBLE. I have had 4 packages go missing and when I call to ask they just speak over me and offer no help.. so now I am missing 4 packages. I have also been living with ROACHES for the best 3 months, I called the office (again they just speak over me) and they have sent the pest control but nothing changes, so I called again and had the same experience. Also if you like fresh cool air and a working A.C. unit DO NOT MOVE HERE the A.C. goes out every 4 days. If I could go back in time I would never ever ever live here. Review from Google
Jun 2018: Was living there for a year, the people were really nice. But they definitely squeezed a few hundred dollars for “damages” for things I notated on the move in condition form. Now we are a year later debating charges and they stopped replying to me. With the most upmost respect to CasteRock, it’s been such a mess, and I hope ANYONE moving in, does not have this experience. make sure you fill in those condition forms and make sure you have the apartment manager or someone with authority verify the apartment before you leave. Jun 2018: Absolute let down! Do not sign here, stay away. I recently left town and made my usual rent money order. I dropped the money order into the drop off box on the 4th. ( I didn’t keep the tab from the money order, because when does anything like this ever happen ) A week later on the 12th I receive a message saying I haven’t payed my rent, when I put the money order in the Dropbox. I’ve been messaging and calling to get a hold of the Leasin Manager and nothing. I spoke to Jordan, she was helpful until she just stopped replying to my email. I still yet to receive any type of answer or solution to this problem, it is now the 15th. Stay away. Review from Google

Apr 2018: WORST APARTMENT COMPLEX IN SAN MARCOS. Apartments look nothing like the model they show you when you tour. My apartment was filthy when I first moved in I had to spend hours cleaning it before I could even start unpacking. Half my outlets don’t work and half don’t have wall covers. Half the stuff in my unit was broken when I first moved in but the maintenance staff didn’t fix it for 3 days. You have to ask the office 5 times to do something before they actually do it. My internet was once out for 5 days and a month after they claimed to have fixed it my internet now goes in and out in 15 minute intervals. Speaking of internet, the unit does not come with WiFi, only Ethernet ports. The walls are so thin I can hear my neighbors taking a piss. If you’re lucky you’ll get a balcony view of the Hay’s County jail that’s located 20 feet Review from Google
Mar 2018: Toured with one of the managers who was super nice to me, answered all of my questions and helped me out a lot. I don’t remember her name but I believe she had red hair! I even came back to show my dad the apartment and she showed me around again and remembered me! Super sweet, however they have been pretty slow at answering emails but since the property is so big I bet they get a lot. Other than that so far I like it! Review from Google
Mar 2018: Moved in Aug. 2016. Apt was clean and otherwise fully ready to movein when I arrived. No maint. probs at all but for a/c filter sometimes misses 30-day replacement target. If maint. staff do miss a 30-day replacement, it is always done the same day I remind office staff. While I do have some few reservations about the way water billing was dropped on us with no notice due to my being 100% disabled and living on limited income disability, the excessively high water rates of last fall have been steadily coming down as mgmt keeps finding ways to reduce overall water usage of entire complex, thus reducing water bills for everyone here, so that is now not unsatisfactory as it had been. Feb 2018: don't get me wrong. Living here has not been bad at all. BUT when I signed my lease summer of 2017 the agents failed to notify me how the utility process would go about. They work with SimpleBills (which is an outside company from CastleRock). Not only did SimpleBills NOT charge me for my first three months, but they charged for four months which was a lot to pay all at once as a college student. When I called CastleRock to find out how they're calculating the utilities they could not give me an answer because it was "fixed" with SimpleBills. I am aware that there is a "fixed" water and light company in San Marcos, but I do believe they are over charging. If you want to pay an insane amount your first few months go ahead. but there are apartments that pay for your water bill, and only charge you for light.
