Yes, the UNCC area is great for Charlotte internships.
Since Charlotte is spread out, a car is needed no matter where you live. Since you need a car anyway, why not like near other people your age, in sociable communities.
Not to mention there are many subleases availble for the summer period as many students go home for the summer, or have interships in other locations.
