They were upfront about issues being dealt with and explained their solution so that we won't being worrying about those issues when we live there next year. August 2020 can't come soon enough!! Review from GoogleSep 2018: The train was about to leave as my Uber driver rushed me to the front doors. At the ticket and baggage check-in area, no one was to be found for several minutes. As I looked at the empty platform and back at the clock on the wall, another gentleman was walking by and noticed my deer-in-the-headlights look. He asked if I needed help, and I told him I thought I just missed my train. Another gentleman was walking into the area and the two of them grabbed my bags and had me jump on a golf cart. I told the person driving how much I appreciated it, as I was involved in a car accident that morning that led to the rush and near-miss. I am so grateful for great people, and they really went above and beyond. This was my first long-distance train experience, and they made all the difference. You used to be able to walk straight from the platform to car pickup, but it's now a pretty long walk. Still -- it's a gorgeous building, and much more of a transit hub. Review from Google
Sep 2018: A beautiful and welcoming train station...I arrived 2 hours early and the seating is comfortable, plenty of areas to charge, friendly Amtrak staff, safe and UBER CLEAN. If traveling alone you can rest assure you'll be fine this Raleigh Union Station is the nicest I've seem in years!! There's a mini kiosk for coffee/tea and snacks along with some vending machines. Excited about Raleigh Union Station. Very nicely located in the old Dillon Supply Warehouse/Raleigh's Historic District. I love how they incorporated some of the relic's from the warehouse in theme. Review from Google
Aug 2018: The new station is really nice! Very clean, with lots of outlets for last-minute charging. There's also a water bottle station. And a scale in case you need to weigh your luggage.
Some folks got stuck in an elevator while I was waiting, though. Then the elevator was out of service and I had to lug my bags up 2 flights of stairs to the platform. Maybe change that to an escalator? Less than a minute after I got onto the platform, they announced the elevator was working again. Also, part of the platform is uncovered for no apparent reason.
Amtrak's service, however, leaves much to be desired. My train from Raleigh to NYC ended up getting in 5 hours late due to limited track access in DC. Return trip was about 2 hours late. Review from Google
