Oct 2019: My mom stays at Poplar Place and loves it there. The staff is always nice when we come in and she loves how nice the place looks. Review from Google
Oct 2019: P-U smelled like dead 🐈 cat over priced. YUCK. The staff was very impersonation and uncaring. Review from Google
Jul 2019: I would definitely recommend living at Poplar Place. I am only here for a year assignment at UNC, but right away, I felt at home in the neighborhood. I do not have a car while I am here, but there is a bus stop next to Poplar Place and even a biking path, which brings you to Carrboro and Chapel Hill. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. They do activities for the residents too. I really enjoyed the recent Breakfast on the Run they did. Overall, I think it was the right choice. Review from Google
Jul 2019: I recently came in to visit with a friend of mine looking for an apartment. While I am not looking to move currently, if I was, I would love to live at Poplar Place after looking around. I was only there with my friend that day. We went to several other apartments in the area, and this was the friendliest. My friend called ahead and the lady she spoke to was very nice. I can't remember her name, but Elaine was the one we saw when we came in. She was very nice and made my friend feel very welcome to be there. Review from Google

Jan 2019: They'll cancel your autopay without telling you and charge you 5% extra rent for "your" mistake, repeatedly. don't trust this company or their payment website. Hi management, you can pay me back the extra rent you've charged me and I'll remove this review. If I give you the keys to my bank account, it's not my fault when your automatic system fails to get your money out of it. The maintenance people are nice and they do a good job. Review from Google
Nov 2018: You have to actively engage in a lawyer or even better if you are a JD student yourself, take pictures and present evidence, and be prepared to sue them in court or openly record audio/video conversations, in order to make them behave with a pinch of basic decency. There is one woman with zero moral value working there, be aware and be prepared to fight for justice. Every email you send them, cc the manager of Westdale Asset Management CEO CFO COO who are the ultimate head of the ownership. They don't know about the incompetent staff here hurting their business. Review from Google
Oct 2018: Poplar Place is the worst apartment I've ever lived in. There have been bugs and spiders constantly, the staff is incredibly rude, the recreation room has been closed for going on 6 months now, the pool has now been closed indefinitely, my bathroom door was painted shut and never fixed, I've had mold develop, the price for rent is way too high for what you get. It is all around an awful place to live and I recommend it to no one. Review from Google

Aug 2018: The female frontdesk staff is very rude and needs to be fired. Not only rude, they make up charges on your move-out and send to debt collector to cheat you more money out of it. Review from Google
Jun 2018: Deserves zero stars! elaine is the rudest and most condescending person you'll meet in this apartment complex. The reality is that she doesn't know much. It's part of the chapel hill/triangle area inbred inferiority complex. She needs to become competent and learn to be helpful. This apartment complex overcharges after you leave. Then they threaten to send their fabricated overcharges to the debt collectors. Stay AWAY from poplar place! Go rent somewhere else in carrboro. All this place wants is money from you. They won't even replace their 1980s appliances. The prices are absurd for an antiquated place full of bugs. Review from Google

Apr 2018: Poplar Place...where should I start?? Elaine in the front office is quite possibly the rudest and most condescending person I've ever met. She has been extremely unhelpful when my girlfriend and I have both come to her with concerns/complaints. The complex does a terrible job ensuring that the apartments aren't infested by bugs. Please do yourself a favor, and stay away from Poplar Place. If you have to come here, only talk to Rhonda. She is delightful and pleasant to talk to. Review from Google
Dec 2017: Nice place to stay lake across the street for Al fisherman and nature goers ,and boat ,can u say win Review from Google
Aug 2017: This place is infested. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! Place is infested and they do nothing! Warning! Stay Away! Review from Google
Nov 2016: Overall, the place was okay for the price. I had one issue that left me unsatisfied shortly before my lease ended though. There was a large oak tree on a hill near the parking lot of the SS and TT buildings. Shortly after I moved into my apartment in the Fall of 2015, a large portion of the treetop fell off into an area with a dog-waste bag receptacle and a picnic table, smashing the table. They had the fallen limbs cleaned up (leaving the broken picnic table there for a year), but left the dangerous tree standing. About a year later, the oak tree went down during a storm and large branches landed on my car, scratching and denting the body and shattering the windshield. Because it rained heavily after the windshield was broken my car was also soaked and full of broken glass. Even though the tree was full of green leaves and looked healthy from Review from Google
Oct 2016: I have only seen this place passing by and it looks like a great apartment complex to live in for college students. They have CM, CW, CPX and JFX buses right at the apartment complex and a sweet little shopping complex that includes food lion, rite aid, burger king and food and nail salon and haircut salons right across it :) Review from Google
Jul 2016: We stayed in the apartments for 5 months. This is the worst apartment I have seen in the last 5 years of our stay. No respect towards Residents, only few people in the leasing office are responsible to Residents and kind, others are rude most of the times. Maintenance is worst. We had lot of issues with leakage of taps, doors, closets. They haven't fixed the doors even after complaining to them 2 to 3 times. The carpet which they have given to us is not new, my son got rashes initially. Lot of noises from neighborhood apartments. Basically the apartment is not sound proof (to minimum extend also). When some one takes shower in the neighborhood apartment, we can hear the sounds. Review from 7/11/16 on Apartment Ratings
Apr 2016: Disclaimer: I did not actually live here, but I had a horrendous tour experience with one member of their management. I made an appointment, showed up, and was greeted by a woman that seemed to be in a bad mood. We walked around a unit and I asked some questions that seemed fair enough, like how many apartments are expected to open up, etc. There is no other way to explain it other then she gave me short answers with a general attitude and a condescending tone. I was just trying to figure out my likelihood of getting a unit, geez. We walked back to the clubhouse, she sat down and I said, "Thank you for your time, I am going to head out now." I turned to talk away..and she yells, "EXCUSE ME, is there a problem?" with her mouth open and an angry, shocked look! Review from 4/11/16 on Apartment Ratings
Jan 2016: I've loved living in Poplar Place. The apartment people are so friendly, and the maintenance is great too. I have a 4-minute bus ride to UNC. To the person who said there was a 5-fold increase in rent: there is always going to be a huge mark-up for month-to-month rent because they want to incentivize you to sign a longer lease. It's not a conspiracy, it's just business (however crappy it is for tenants).
Jan 2015: 5-FOLD INCREASE in rent at Poplar Place! My 1-year lease will end soon, so I received paperwork to either renew my lease or go "month to month". I currently pay about $900 a month. After my lease ends, a month's rent if I choose to go month to month has skyrocketed to $5,100! I'm not even sure if an increase in rent this large is legal. I've checked with the office and they say there is nothing they can do. They said rent is calculated by the "higher ups" and can't be changed. If you're looking for apartments in the Chapel Hill area, don't depend on having any flexibility at the end of your lease at Poplar Place. Review from 1/09/15 on Apartment Ratings
Dec 2014: I am writing this review in response to a situation that has been ongoing for at least two months now. For minimally the past two months (October/November 2014 and now into December) the complex has been allowing extremely large machinery to be parked directly in front of my building (CC). I am not bothered by the aesthetics, although it is not nice to look at. I am bothered because it causes the residents in this building extreme difficulty parking in our parking spaces. I am aware that at least one individual backed their car into the large trailer parked in front of the building which caused extreme damage to the vehicle. I am also aware that the office has been made aware of the situation on more than one occasion and has thus far refused to do anything about it. Review from 12/10/14 on Apartment Ratings
