Aug 2019: Yesterday I told Jessica a shelf in my fridge was broke. Today, Louis (maintenance) came and fixed it all up real quick. Today my a/c got overworked and quit cooling. Louis came down, same day. I have rented for many years and never had this quick of a response. On top of that everyone involved never treated me like an inconvenience or a bother. Apr 2019: I live in University Lake Apartments (an excellent complex) which is connected by a walk-way to Carolina Apartments. The company that owns our complex also owns Royal Park (also connected by a walk-way) and Carolina Apartments.
I'm looking to expand from a one bedroom to a two bedroom which University doesn't provide. The natural move in such a situation is to transfer to Royal Park which is on the opposite side of us from Carolina Apts.
However, I thought I'd investigate Carolina Apts as an option because I assumed that the ownership is responsibe for the success of University and Royal Park.. The only difference is the management team. I didn't think a management team would ill affect a complex that is connected by ownership and pathway to two excellently ran complexes.
Judging by these reviews I'm beginning to believe that I was wrong. I'm not writing this because of the bad reviews though Review from Google
Dec 2018: Have had to deal with a old rude man underneath me. Having to deal with noise complaints when I have cancer and barely do anything. The utilities are too much and I recently had a huge price increase when i had to resign that is unaffordable seeing as I have to work less now. Review from Google
Dec 2018: The only real issue I have is with parking its so many visitors spots but if you have someone visiting you over night and didnt have a parking pass bc the office closes at 5 or 6 and they park in visitors they still tow the car. All I can say is I have had a great experience staying here. I moved from Durham NC. The schools and the neighborhoods were bad. Carolina apartments and their staff have been a breath of fresh air to me and my family. Communication is the key. If you talk to them, they are more than happy to help. This is not the Taj Mahal. If you want that, go buy it. It is a great neighborhood and the prices are great for the Carrboro area. Sep 2018: I have lived here for 2 years now. It's certainly not a perfect place to live, but the staff works hard to meet your needs. I called in a work order on a broken door and the problem was fixed the SAME day. I wasn't even expecting that, so I had left my dog out while at school, and the maintenence crew had waited for me to get home! They were so helpful! For one, they repeatedly tow cars of residents, they clear out and renovate apartments above and beside yours without notice and whenever you ask for a sound resolution to these issues they give an excuse- not even a promise to consider resolving your issues.
Carolina Apartments: it does not hurt to be courteous. We pay just as much as the surrounding apartments and deserve notices and your commitment to quality customer service. Apr 2018: So many friends went there attracted by the low rent, all of them left with the same horror stories. The utility package seems like a pretty good deal but even though the utilities are included in the rent, this crappy complex and management company will fail to pay your utilities for MONTHS and your internet will continuously be turned off every month! Nevermind the fact that you pay your rent on time!!!

I admit that there was a slight roach problem throughout it all, but I think it's more so the fault of filthy tenants than the management. In my first year in a 3 bedroom, sewage burst for both restrooms, so not pretty. Moved into a 2 bedroom for the next 2 years-- much more pleasant experience. Maintenance moves rather swiftly and management is nice. XXXX and XXXX are very pleasant people and have taken good care of me in the past.

Oct 2016: The absolute worst place you could ever want to live! The front office is beyond terrible and we won't even go into there over crowding of huge families in little apartments!!! To top it off they have a terrible service department and the biggest parking/towing scam I've ever seen! The office staff will flat out lie to your face and cares about nothing other than making money. I strongly recommend living anywhere but here! If there was negative stars I'd give a minus 2!!!! May 2016: JUST don't DO IT! Renovations mean NOTHING when there's mold and roaches!
What a horrible experience. I had severe allergies from the mold, dust, and roaches in this place and the allergies are now gone since I moved out. And I have NEVER BEFORE HAD ALLERGIES!
Roaches were everywhere from day 1 and while maintenance would come spray occasionally it was a pain when they would tell you to take everything out of all the cabinets and then not even spray there.
The mold grew in the rooms and bathroom and some was straight up black mold but management wouldn't do anything about it unless you got a test to make sure it was black mold, and those can be very costly. Stains always grew in our carpet too and we never spilled any liquids. Dark spots would just start popping up and growing all over.

All the staff is friendly and responsive to our needs. The manager Tracy is the best, Diana the front office staff is friendly and Dave and Ricky the maintenance staff is outstanding.
Even though the place is old, they keep things update, fixed and clean. Whenever the is a problem, Tracy is on it.
We have had little problems with our place which makes us feel safe and secured. When we have to move, we will be sad and will miss all of them and hope the next place we live will be just as good as we are here.

My apartment has a lot of space and for the price its awesome me and my husband live here and we have had no problems. every apartment with have some sort of maintenance upkeep but that comes with apartment renting but maintenance was quick to come to any call or problem I had. Over all this is a great place to live and everyone here is great.

I went in they showed me around applied and was approved in no time. I had no problems getting approved. I was relieved. I was ready to give up on looking for a place but they was able to save the day! I must say this had been the best decision I made especially relocating to this area from another county. The front desk assistance is all always nice and friendly, and willing to help out in anyway. I love the location. I'm close to everything and the bus is free all day long. What more can you ask for.

Management will send out notices to each building literally the day before they have maintenance do "pest control", and you have to take absolutely everything out of your cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. While my roommate and I were living here, we had an infestation of bats in our apartment (at least 10!), and the manager acted as if this issue was something that did not need to be handled promptly. It took almost a week for them to finally get all of them out, and they never even tested the bats for rabies or other diseases that they carry even though we requested it.

During the summer, we couldn't get our apartment cooler than 75 degrees. There's only one vent in the large family room and so it felt much hotter than that! Also, whatever finish is used on the counters stains very easily.
Our neighbors were nice and friendly and we enjoyed the big storage closet. Although I would never do the two bathrooms with the tub in the middle again! Having to lock/shut two doors to use the restroom is a PAIN! Maintenance was awesome and most of our maintenance requests were completed within 24 hours.
Review from 6/22/15 on Apartment RatingsDec 2014: This is the first and only time I have written a review. I signed a 6-month lease and I'm happy to be moving out right now! I have never seen this many roaches in my entire life! During my time here, maintenance have pretty much exterminated my unit every other week, and it feels like nothing happened. I still see roaches on the evening after extermination! Mind you, I am one of the neatest people you could come across. I think the squeeze in from other units. I could say more about other issues but the roaches are my real concern. Overall, its just a cheap, dirty, classless apartment complex. I'm excited to be moving out right now!

There's very little light in the parking lots at night, which puts me on edge, especially because there are some shady people who just kinda hang around in the breezeways.
If you want to live here, I hope you're an early bird. Every 2 weeks, anywhere from 7:30 to 8:00 in the morning, the lawn crew comes through and spends a solid hour on one section of the lawn. You'll also hear, if you're a light sleeper like myself, everyone and their mother going to work.
